Chief Financial Officer

David Sommer is the chief financial officer for the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). He is responsible for monitoring, controlling, and reporting on CompTIA’s financial results and investment portfolio. He also manages CompTIA’s Operations Department. Currently, he is focusing on improving CompTIA business processes and financial systems.

Previously, Mr. Sommer was chief operating officer for CompTIA, responsible for day-to-day operations including overseeing E-Business and Software Solutions, Education and Training, Events and Conferences, Finance, HR, Marketing and Communications, Operations and IT, Services Section, and Skills Development and Certification. He also worked directly with leading software industry executives delivering timely business information and best practices through SoftwareCEO, a comprehensive information portal for software executives.

Under Mr. Sommer’s direction, CompTIA developed the CompTIA RFID+ certification, a vendor-neutral professional credential that affirms an individual’s ability to work with radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.
Prior to joining CompTIA in 2003, Mr. Sommer was a senior principal at American Management Systems, Inc. (AMS) where he managed multiple electronic commerce software implementation projects in the state and local government markets; and provided electronic commerce training to AMS consultants.

Mr. Sommer holds an MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a BS in Computer Science from Purdue University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Association Executive (CAE).
