Thibodeaux Talks

  • CompTIA's Green Thumb

I’m just back from the wildly successful CompTIA EMEA Member Conference in the UK where I was struck by how green everything was– and I’m not just talking about the lush landscape. The Green movement was evident everywhere in the UK, from things as simple as switched outlets and compact florescent lighting everywhere, to motion sensing escalators that “sleep” to conserve power and mirrored ceiling panels that reflect light and heat into the stands of the Ascot Racecourse where the event was held.

Green IT also was a prevalent topic among EMEA Conference speakers and attendees. Environmentalism was mentioned as a planetary imperative and as an economic opportunity during formal presentations and informal conversations alike. The energy efficiencies of virtualization and cloud computing were hot topics at the conference, in part because the UK Government’s Carbon Reduction Commitment will soon require large organizations to monitor and report energy usage, and ...

  • We want you!

As in any relationship, CompTIA’s connection with the industry we represent is ever-evolving. This is especially true of our rapport with the vendor community—a relationship which is undergoing a dramatic transformation. In the past that relationship was based largely on sponsorships (dollars and cents) rather than on membership (engagement and participation). Participation in CompTIA was presented as an “investment” and the ROI for a vendor was calculated almost solely from CompTIA’s ability to connect those vendors to resellers. That is changing going forward.

The new CompTIA is focused on communication, connection and collaboration. We want to invite everyone to the table in communities of interest to help vendors, resellers and service providers connect with one another, reach new audiences and realize new opportunities. To that end, we are in the process of creating several new communities (Security, Healthcare IT, MSP, Managed Print and more) led by highly engaged executive councils ...

  • Breakaway 2009 Rocked!

Wow, what a show! More than 1,000 IT executives -- including a lot of new faces -- joined us in Las Vegas, Aug 3-6, for a great few days of engaging speakers, informative panels and presentations, interactive vendor exhibits, and lots of networking time and peer-to-peer learning. Oh, and we had some fun too.

I received a lot of positive feedback from show attendees throughout the week, and there were two common themes heard throughout:

    1. There was A LOT of relevant content to help me grow my business
    2. I like CompTIA’s enhanced focus on members - how can I get more involved?

From the keynotes to the breakout sessions, I do feel there was a host of good content to be had – and just a superstar group of presenters, moderators, and panelists. Thanks very much to all who participated this year. Of course, your own peers are often the best ...

  • Exciting Changes in Store for Breakaway

The past year has brought some tough challenges for the channel. The recession, financial meltdown and rising unemployment have all contributed to a tough environment. In recognition of these factors, CompTIA has been working hard to make this year’s Breakaway very special. We hope it will serve as a rallying point for renewed positive momentum for the remainder of this year and beyond.

What makes an event like Breakaway great is the fusion of announcements, networking, education and business. In looking for ways to improve the event we’ve changed some things and added others while keeping the best of the best as-is. For resellers, you’ll find even more opportunities to get first-hand education from industry experts—and you’ll have a lot more time for exchanging ideas with your peers. For vendors we’ve focused on making our Technology Vendor Fair a low-cost, high efficiency turnkey opportunity to expose your offerings to as ...

  • Welcome to CompTIA’s redesigned website!

CompTIA’s mission is to advance the global information technology industry, which poses some unique challenges.  As a trade organization working on behalf of the industry, CompTIA has to be progressive and agile enough to keep pace with evolving technologies and shifting business models.  At the same time, we must remain focused on the core values and interests that our members trust us to promote.

To keep pace with the IT world’s rapid evolution, CompTIA has undergone some significant changes recently. Internally, we brought in some new staff, upgraded and automated our internal systems, accelerated our international expansion, and renewed our focus on the programs that are of highest value to our members. Externally we launched a new logo, added popular communications vehicles like Connect and SmartBrief, and as you see are now revamping our presence online.

The new www.comptia.org features a look and feel that better reflects today’s dynamic IT industry ...
