Network Management Group Benefits from CompTIA Security Trustmark™

The Issue

The Hutchinson, Kansas-based Network Management Group wanted to prove it had the competency to complete managed services tasks for its clients.

The Solution

Steve Harper, president of Network Management Group, said the company decided to earn the CompTIA Security Trustmark in order to show its clients that they were more than capable of protecting their intellectual property and providing quality service.

The CompTIA Security Trustmark is a vendor-neutral business-level accreditation that identifies solution providers that follow security best practices. Applicants must complete a detailed review process and are subject to unannounced audits.

“In our case, it took hundreds of man hours, but we took it very seriously and wanted to score well,” Harper said.
By proving the Network Management Group follows best security practices in its own business, Harper feels clients will be more comfortable with the company handling their data.

“I think revisiting our disaster recovery plans, our data security and password issues within our own company was a good process to go through for the management team,” he said.

Harper said there were a number of things that came up during the process that they had not considered. It made them aware of room for improvement and change in the way they currently operated.

“I think it forced us to internally improve data control,” he said. “We further locked down customer information, better password management, and things like that.”

The Network Management Group will use the CompTIA Security Trustmark as part of their marketing and branding strategy, just as they use their CompTIA Authorized Service Center status.

“It’s a validation of experience and competency,” he said. “You know that we and all those who have earned the CompTIA Security Trustmark have access to other members in the IT community that can help our customers, and who have helped us.”

The Results

Harper is confident that the CompTIA Security Trustmark is a valuable investment and will pay dividends in new contracts and improved security knowledge.

“There is no doubt in my mind that it will pay for itself tenfold,” he said.

He plans to use it in marketing at events, in print marketing and on their Web site.

To maintain their CompTIA Security Trustmark status, the Network Management Group will have to undergo an annual review process. Harper said they have added the CompTIA Security Trustmark as an agenda item on their annual business planning review.

Harper said he would absolutely recommend the CompTIA Security Trustmark to other solution providers.

“I just told a group of 13 other resellers that they should apply for this,” he said. “It’s a great thing.”
