Getting America Back to Work

Despite the current rate of unemployment in the United States, there are more than 450,000 IT job openings in the country, many of which require the skills that are tested through CompTIA certifications. CompTIA, through its Getting America Back to Work initiative, wants to help Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) and One-Stop Centers place their unemployed candidates into one of these jobs. These jobs can offer opportunities both to unemployed individuals who are new to the job market and those who are looking to change careers.

CompTIA created the Getting America Back to Work initiative to assist local WIBs and their One-Stop Centers in helping individuals with adequate technical aptitude gain the training and certifications required for IT employment opportunities. Our integrated solution will save One-Stops time assessing, training and placing unemployed workers who have an aptitude for IT.

Our process is simple:

  • Assess
Our partner, MeasureUp, provides an aptitude test to measure an individual's technical knowledge and ability in order to determine if they should pursue a career in IT.
  • Train
Individuals who show promise can take IT certification classes at one of CompTIA's Education to Careers (E2C) member schools, or commercial training providers that teach to the skills required for certification.
  • Certify
CompTIA's certifications map to the skills required for many of the open IT jobs in your region, and many employers mandate or highly prefer certification acquisition for their IT professionals. Our solution helps One-Stop Centers direct unemployed individuals to the right certification test upon completion of their training.
  • Place
Our job placement tool sorts local job opportunities by zip code and job titles that are consistent with skills covered by CompTIA certifications to hasten the job placement process.
