CompTIA Educational Foundation to Expand IT Industry Philanthropy & Networking at Breakaway Conference

Industry Leaders Gain Influential Networking Time While Helping New Entrants Launch IT Careers

Las Vegas, Nev., Aug. 3, 2009 - CompTIA Educational Foundation is hosting leading information technology (IT) companies this week during CompTIA Breakaway 2009 in Las Vegas, Nev., to help them expand their networking while also giving back to the industry and helping to diversify it.

The Foundation’s Third Annual Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic, to be held today, allows IT leaders to have hours of one-on-one time with their key partners. Sponsors have invited their partners to play golf at the Rio Secco Golf Club, one of America’s top courses. Top sponsors also receive a golf clinic with Celebrity Golf Pro and CBS Television Analyst Ian Baker-Finch during the event. Autotask, AXZO Press, Cisco, InFocus, Ingram Micro, Ricoh, Pearson VUE, Prometric, Service 800, SkillSoft, Synnex and Xerox are among those to participate in the Charity Golf Classic.

Golf participants also will compete to win more than a million dollars in prizes. After all foursomes have completed their rounds of golf and during a random drawing of eligible golfers, one golfer at the event will be selected to take a single shot for one million dollars. Foursomes participating in the Golf Classic can participate in hole-in-one contests on each of Rio Secco’s par 3 holes. Prizes include:

  • A $500 Rio Secco Pro Shop gift certificate
  • A 2009 Porsche Carrera
  • A seven-day Caribbean cruise for two on Norwegian Cruise Lines, and
  • Two roundtrip tickets on American Airlines, good for travel anywhere in the continental United States.

In addition, golf attendees will enter a raffle to win a portable projector donated by InFocus.

Plus during the Foundation’s silent auction at Breakaway, conference attendees can bid for signed and framed photographs of golf celebrities Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods. CDW donated PGA Tour tickets and autographed items from golfers Paula Creamer and Annika Sorenstam for the silent auction as well. The Foundation also will raffle off two prizes: an HP Mini 110 XP netbook PC and an Amazon Kindle wireless reader.

“Doing good for others helps bring people together. The CompTIA Educational Foundation is our industry’s prime philanthropic endeavor with a proven success record of helping others achieve rewarding, life-long IT careers,” said John Venator, president and CEO, CompTIA Educational Foundation. “Not only are we helping others help themselves and improve their career options, but our success increases the diversification of the IT workforce which raises all ships for our industry.”

Proceeds from the charity event will benefit the Foundation’s Creating Futures program which provides training and certification opportunities to populations who have historically been under-represented in the IT workforce, including U.S. veterans, individuals with disabilities, women, minorities, at-risk youth and dislocated workers. Creating Futures works with employers to identify their hiring needs, then tailors its training to help individuals obtain the skills employers require.

Donations to the CompTIA Educational Foundation can be in cash, equipment or training seats. All gifts are 100 percent tax-deductible. Individuals and companies can make a donation to the program, and prospective participants can apply for training by visiting the Foundation’s website, http://www.CompTIA-EF.org.
