Laurel Chivari
Vice President, Marketing and Communications

Laurel Chivari is vice president of marketing and communications for the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), the leading trade association for the world’s information technology (IT) industry. She is responsible for the association’s marketing strategy, market research, communications, media relations, product marketing, and web and other electronic initiatives.

Since joining CompTIA in 2002, Ms. Chivari has built a research department that delivers highly respected and recognized research on a wide range of issues affecting the IT industry such as emerging technologies and trends, security, and global IT skills. She has also implemented an aggressive media campaign that has raised the visibility of CompTIA among the print, online and broadcast media outlets in the IT industry trade press, general business press, and consumer media. In addition, Ms. Chivari has overseen the expansion of member benefits and affinity programs as well as the expansion of CompTIA’s web presence and the building of successful electronic advertising programs.

Experienced in both domestic and international business, Ms. Chivari’s prior marketing background covers both the high technology and information technology arenas, where she has held executive-level marketing positions. Prior to joining CompTIA, she led initiatives with organizations such as Software Development Systems (SDS), Groupe Schneider/Square D, Northrop Grumman, and Motorola. Her career accomplishments include the design and execution of customer loyalty programs which significantly reduced customer defection and increased revenue – earning her the annual “Key Contributor to Business” award while at Groupe Schneider/Square D, global marketing plans which optimized product distribution and revenue generation, and emerging technology research leading to the development of new commercial products.

Ms. Chivari has spoken at a number of IT industry and marketing conferences. She also has contributed articles for industry publications, including “Security Skills Coming Up Short” in IndustryWeek on April 11, 2008.

She is involved with various associations including the American Marketing Association and the Public Relations Society of America.

Ms. Chivari has a bachelor’s degree in industrial psychology and business administration from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
