CompTIA & RFID

The adoption of RFID tracking is in the headlines almost daily due to mandates from major market influencers such as the U.S. Department of Defense and Wal-Mart. CompTIA has launched initiatives to advance the adoption of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology throughout the computer, electronics and information technology (IT) industries.

With more than 20,000 members worldwide representing virtually every segment of the IT industry, CompTIA is uniquely positioned to help minimize the challenges and maximize the benefits of RFID. The diverse membership of CompTIA allows the Association to develop quality best business practices, tools, road maps, metrics and application software requirements that may help ease the transition to using RFID technology.

CompTIA RFID+™ Certification
CompTIA, working with leading RFID industry experts, has created the CompTIA RFID+™ Certification, the global standard of competency for entry level RFID professionals. The mission of this certification is to provide a vendor-neutral certification that validates an RFID technician's knowledge and skills in the areas of installation, maintenance, repair, and upkeep of hardware and software functionality of RFID products. RFID Education and Skills Development
CompTIA provides the opportunity for our members to learn about RFID and increase their technical and market knowledge. Training is provided at member conferences, through cybercasts and by use of CompTIA Authorized Qualified Curriculum (CAQC) materials.

CompTIA has a long history of success in developing workforce knowledge, and will continue to take a leadership role through RFID skilling initiatives.

CompTIA RFID Technology Applications and Standards Initiative
The cross-industry, vendor-neutral task force defined a standard for data related to an RFID tag. The standard includes the required data fields needed for service and support to be stored and/or updated in the RFID tag, and defines how the memory for this data is mapped within the tag. (eg. Size of field, type of field, locked or unlocked data etc.)

This standard will provide time and cost savings for OEMs, service providers and customers. It also creates opportunities for OEM and resellers to generate revenue, contributes to better partnerships, and adds significantly to customer quality and satisfaction.
